Teaching in China
IIn 2009 I gave classes for one month at the art academy in Xiamen. Here is a document and an impression of the lessons.
How does one teach in China ?
The teaching method in China is very different to that in the West, much is based on technique and repetition. The challenge was therefore to make the students more free and loose in their work. I let them experiment with all kinds of materials, work on music, work outside, all this to enable them to make more contact with their intuition and individuality. Presentation and pleasure were put central. Slowly but surely our worlds came closer together.

Teaching at the art academy in China

The different way of teaching gave the wonderful sense of working and experiencing together.
The projects brought an adventure of learning, discovering and mutual appreciation.
At the final exhibition we photographed each other heartily!

All of us in the newspaper.
The management of the academy,
myself and my students.

A number of visits to artists were on the program, very official and very much fun and interesting.
There is an incredible skill in China, some of the work I found very impressive. Great feeling if the maker of such work, much enjoys my own work..

Corroded, eroded.
Distorted, worn.
Abandoned, forgotten.
Washed up, pounded on rocks,
scoured by sand.
